Every year we celebrate our New Year’s Festival in the month of April. In the festival people participate in New Year’s games. The games are Kotkapora, Lissanagaha, Bonamuttiyla and Bideema. In this festival people increase peace and work together.

In my family I have my father, mother, two sisters, one brother my grandmother and myself. In my free time I like to draw pictures, garden and watch TV. I like to eat ice cream. I dislike fighting with others. When I grow up I would like to be a teacher.

I have a mother only. My father died due to terrorism activities in the war. In my free time I draw, sing songs. play violin and organ and study. I dislike quarreling and saying bad words. When I grow up I would like to be a doctor.

The community I am illustrating is the Sinhala Budhist people. The Perahera is a traditional item in our culture. All peoples participate in this program on a special day, especially Isala and Wesak. People go to temple to worship lord buddha from Perahera.

My mother, father, sister and brother live with me. In my free time I like drawing art and playing games. I dislike hurting others. I want to be a teacher one day.

I am illustrating a celebration in the community. Sinhala and Tamil people celebrating the New Year festival. There is a multi cultural society where Srilanka, Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslims all live together. Tamil and Sinhala people celebrate New Year festivals in April every year. Adults and children work together and share their experiences. This festival urges unity and coexistence in our community.

I have a mother, father and a brother. They all live with me happily. I like reading books, collecting stamps, and drawing. I like to play games with my brother in my free time. I like writing books and poems and I dislike fighting and hurting others. I want to become a writer one day.

I am illustrating Sri Lankan Veddhas. In the past in Sri Lanka, Veddas lived in the forest. In this piece, Veddas and the Vedda leader are hunting deer to eat. It is like Robin Hood and his merry men killing deer. Peace and unity are important to me because I am Sri Lankan and it is one part of the Sri Lankan history.

In my family there is my mother, my father, my brother and me. In my free time, I like to watch television and play the violin. I like to watch wrestling, I like freedom, going to school and learning. I dislike singing. When I grow up I would like to be the best star scientist in the world.

In my piece I am showing traditional costumes, dance traditions and preparations for the pageant. There is community involvement for the yearly cultural pageant in Kandy. The value I am showing is a commitment to keep traditions from disappearing and community spirit.

My mother is a housewife. My father is a public health inspector. My sister is in grade 10. In my free time I like playing badminton, going swimming, drawing pictures and looking after trees. I like staying at home with my family, going to see beautiful places- like waterfalls. When I grow up I would like to become an airline pilot.

These people are the makers of “Sesatha” shades of Sri Lankan tradition. The circular shades with poles are shown in the picture. Shade making is our tradition. There are about seventy families and paddy cultivation is the primary source of income for them. These poor people sweat a lot to make our traditional shades. To value their effort, I’m presenting the theme, “Shades of Tradition”.

I have one brother, my father works at the Colombo Municipal Council and my mother is a housewife. In my free time I read story books and draw. I like spending time with my family and helping others. I don’t like when people are treated unfairly. I want to become a world renowned artist and bring Sri Lankan tradition to the world.
